STYLESIGHT is the official trend partner of Material World

Program Description:
In MegaTrend F/W 08/09, we connect People with Places, exploring the strong human desire to form an emotional relationship with our habitats as a way of grounding ourselves and distinguishing our lifestyles. This need has evolved from a world climate defined by extreme migration and compounding avalanches of new information that are meant to connect people, yet paradoxically have had an equally disconnecting impact. The emotional connection people are seeking in affinity groups, tribes, and home decodes these various lifestyles and powerfully transcends across all types of products, particularly fashion because people are choosing and co-creating rather than simply consuming. As the world becomes smaller and more homogeneous, with the big brands ubiquitous on Main St. from Berlin to Beijing, we fight world blanding and blending. We take you through the journey from inspirational influences to key concepts and show you how to merchandise your line with colored sketches and we offer you our reference library to deepen your research and understanding of what's to come for F/W 08/09, and why.

SPEAKER:  Jim Lovejoy, Director, Industry Programs, [TC]²
Dan St Louis, Director, Hosiery Technology Center

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The lowest manufacturing cost does not always lead to the best financial results, but many buyers are measured on doing just that.  Their objective is to get the highest gross margin for the products they buy.  This typically means a low labor cost country which is far away.  What is many times overlooked is the opportunity to buy closer to the sale date in smaller quantities and the flexibility to chase the winners and cut off the losers. In addition, there are times when what was ordered is not exactly what is received.  There is a better process which can lead to significantly better bottom line results.  The speakers will show participants a technique to quantify these results and several case studies from their experience.

ADMISSION: FREE. No pre-registration required. Admission will be first come, first serve so early arrival is recommended.

TREND UNION, a forecast service based in Paris, was founded in 1985 by Li Edelkoort and tend design professionals.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
As a reaction on current affairs and public outcry about the excessive indecency of the last decade with too much flesh exposure, fashion will cover us up in order to become invisible as an individual, crusading for anonymity. The textile industry has to get ready for the grand return of fabrics covering every part of our body including ankles, hair and hands.  Fear may be at the core of this urge to dress; fear of fashion, climate change, viruses and nuclear waste, fear of each other. Yet, in this covered moment, we will tremendously enjoy unveiling ourselves behind closed doors. A proud-to-be-prude pleasurable moment, when fashion is coming to terms with fear.
